Have a 1997 dodge with the smog pump. I plan on removing the pump.  Looking for replacement tensioner and belt parts that will work without the pump.

Did you figure out how to? I think I did. I bought a new idler tensioner and ground down the stop and drilled a new one to put a short bolt into. This gave me the option to re-clock the arm. I hope the pictures come in clear enough. Here are some numbers: Dayco 89235 Automatic Belt Tensioner, Dayco 1005K7 belt, and if you want Dayco 89003 to replace the Idler/ Tensioner pulley with one that has flanges. The old flat steal one is working just fine for me though. As you can see the belt will ride on the inside of the belt. The picture I took of my engine looks to be the same as the one in Kilby.com site for the V-10 bracket. I have been driving like this for about one year now with no problems. (Knock on wood) I think I am about ready to put in a Air on Board system soon.

Just to make things clear, a smooth pulley is called a "backside" pulley. Or backside idler. It's designed to run on the backside of the belt only. If running the grooves on that pulley like in the last pic, you really should switch to a 7 groove idler so you don't wear out the belt prematurely. I mean, if you're spending this much money on a mod like this, what's another $20 or whatever that pulley costs? The mod looks good though! I wonder if the "CA" model tensioner would bolt right up though....

I look hard for a while for a 7 groove idler for a while, but only found 6 or 8 groove ones. It is hard finding "CA" parts for some reason. Of course I am only doing this for a hobby, so maybe another look may be in order at another or two parts stores. But this seems to be working right now, plus I don't have anywhere warm to work on it now. It would be great if you knew where to get a 7 groove idler pulley.

3 inch OD. I sure 3 - 4 inch pulley will work. Bearing mounted 1/4 inch in from back of pulley. 5/8 ID hole in bearing. Thanks.

Never mind, I found one. Dayco part# 89008 idler. There also rumor that you could use the Automatic Belt Tensioner off of a 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 with ether a 3.9, 5.2, or 5.9 L engine. Light duty version of the 5.9 L.
